Hi Mike,
I'm certain that the sighting you posted from Wollombi was a Wallaroo. I assume these were tourists that may not have seen one before, especially at speed when they don't look like the tail of a Qantas jet. The description perfectly matches and they are always on the road there (in Narone Creek Road, where Wild Edge is) behaving exactly as described.
